Course Description:

This course will describe the health risks associated with swimming pools, basic elements of swimming pool design and the inspection process for swimming pools and bodies of water used for recreational swimming.

Academic Faculty/Staff, Federal Government Employees, State Government Employees, Local Government Employees, Non-Government Employees and Students

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize some of the water born diseases that can be transmitted in public swimming pools and recreational areas
  • Describe the need to conduct an environmental assessment of the area used for recreational swimming when a beach or natural body of water is used for swimming
  • Describe basic elements of a swimming pool and design criteria
  • Explain the inspection requirements for public swimming pools

Troy Perry has had experience with public swimming pools since 1979. He has operated maintained and managed and inspected pools and was a Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training Instructor Certified by The American Red Cross. He is also a former Certified Pool – Spa Operator Instructor and has served in various capacities for 21 years with the Jefferson County Department of Health.
