DSHS Foundations of Public Health: Public Health Disciplines
Course Description:
The DSHS Foundations of Public Health: Public Health Disciplines course examines five disciplines of public health individually and explores how they work together to improve public health. This course was developed by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Target Audience
This course was designed for individuals who may be new to the field, individuals interested in public health, and those interested in pursuing a public health career.

Learning Training and Development Specialist VI, DSHS
Alexandra “Lexie” Perez is currently the Learning Training and Development Specialist with Office of Practice and Learning at DSHS. Her role as a training specialist is to develop public health training curriculum to be delivered in person, virtually, and through self-pace e-learning modules. Previously, she served as a training specialist for the Career Development team with the Learning Resource Network at HHSC. Prior to that, she was a Learning and Development Supervisor at Goodwill Industries of Central Texas. In her career, she has worked in academia, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and state government.
Lexie holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Public Health degree from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health. Lexie is also a graduate from HHSC’s Extraordinary Contributors Program.
In her spare time, Lexie enjoys spending time with friends and family, running, exploring new restaurants, and traveling.
