E011: Air Quality and Environmental Noise

Course Description:

The course will convey the fundamentals of air quality and environmental noise. Specifically, air quality assessment, including air pollutant types, sources, problems and effects, measurement and factors will be addressed. Noise and sound properties, health effects/hazards and sources will also be covered.

Academic Faculty/Staff, Federal Government Employees, State Government Employees, Local Government Employees, Non-Government Employees and Students

Learning Objectives

  •     Understand basis air quality definitions including, but not limited to, air pollutant and air quality
  •     Define specific outdoor and indoor air pollutants
  •     Specify sources of outdoor and indoor air pollutants
  •     Identify health effects of outdoor and indoor air pollutants
  •     Identify ecological, aesthetic, climate, and related effects, and economic effects of outdoor air pollutants
  •     Identify health assessment methods for air pollutants
  •     Identify measurement techniques and devices for outdoor air pollutants
  •     Specify air pollutant estimation purpose and methods
  •     Identify air pollutant controls and measures
  •     Identify air pollutant environmental factors including meteorology and topography
  •     Understand basis noise quality definitions including, but not limited to, noise, sound, frequency, hearing, wavelength, velocity, sound pressure, sound power, sound intensity, and loudness
  •     Identify health effects of noise and sound
  •     Specify sources of sound and noise
  •     Identify methods of sound detection and measurement
  •     Identify methods of sound and noise control
